We believe that choosing your own clothes improves self-confidence.

about the program

Operation School Bell is the signature philanthropic program of Assistance League, serving local communities by providing clothing and supplies as well as helping meet the health, hunger, and literacy needs of those served. The execution of the program is determined by each chapter.

Middle School Shopping Days

Through a partnership with a local retailer, middle school students use store vouchers to shop for school-appropriate clothing and shoes. The store’s employees and Assistance League members assist the students with making sensible choices while utilizing the full value of the voucher.

High School Holiday Shopping Days

Again, through a partnership with a local retailer, high school students experiencing homelessness use a store voucher to shop for holiday items and/or gifts. The store’s employees and Assistance League volunteers are on hand to assist with choices, the full utilization of the voucher’s value and to provide discretion on the students’ behalf.

why it’s important

Middle school students can choose clothing of their preference, rather than having apparel picked out for them, increasing self-esteem.

High school students are treated to a shopping experience that most have never had. The ability to choose clothing, gifts and accessories is a vital enhancement to their social and emotional well-being.
